--Alonzo Fields presentation by Gary Taylor.
Mr. Fields, born in Lyles Station Indiana, was Chief Butler in the White House under Presidents Hoover, Roosevelt, Truman and Eisenhour. He wrote a book that was subsequently been turned into a play called “Looking Over the President’s Shoulder”. As a Fund-Raising effort by the Lyles Station Historical School and Museum, Lyles Station will present the play Friday, June 21, 2024 through Sunday, June 23, 2024 with a special “White House Dinner” included with the June 22nd performance. Mr. Gary Taylor is traveling throughout South-Central Indiana presenting information about Mr. Fields as well as a life-sized cutout of the man himself, Alonza Fields. He will have a table set up in the Annex Lobby this Sunday; and will be available to provide additional information about Alonzo Fields and the Lyles Station Historical School and Museum – and he might let you snap a selfie with the cutout.

Eva M Thomas Book & Educational Materials
Grant Application
The mounting cost of higher education even with substantial financial aid, often limits access for many of our students. This grant is intended to help students with the purchase of books and educational materials, as those costs also steadily rise. The grant is administered through Second Baptist Church on an annual basis for a three-year period beginning in 2023. It is named in honor of the benefactor’s mother, the late Eva M. Thomas, a woman of faith and courage who believed in the power of prayer – and of education. The attached link will allow you to download a copy of the letter and application. The deadline is April 15, 2024. The award will be announced May 1, 2024.
In the Rapture – https://www.folkstreams.net/films/in-the-rapture
In 1976, late folklorist Professor William Wiggins filmed a religious drama, In the Rapture at Second Baptist Church staged by Mrs Margerine Hatcher and members of the Second Baptist Church Choir. The original 16mm film is in the Indiana University Archives; however, Folkstreams.net is streaming a converted VHS version of the film on its website to view. It’s truly wonderful to watch what Rev. Dr. E.D. Butler called “the demonstration of a group using their talents to portray an idea”.
You can access our live stream service by two platforms - Facebook and YouTube -If you have not live-streamed our service before, do a search on Second Baptist Church Bloomington, IN. We will go live shortly before 10am .
